Travel in style

On my last holiday I was lucky enough to fly business class and I must admit it’s going to be difficult going back to economy.

We travelled to the United States of America from Perth on Cathay Pacific and there were so many things I loved about the flying experience so I thought I would share them with you.

  1. Food & Drink

The journey started with sparkling (or a drink of choice) on arrival which you drink while economy is boarding and have to finish before take off.

Sparkling

You are served entrée, main and dessert as separate courses and the food includes the likes of smoked salmon, premium steak and fresh berries. You even get a choice of bread type including garlic bread.

Lunch time

You can have your meals at a time convenient for you not just at the scheduled meal times and you can ask for a snack at any time which include gourmet burgers and scones and tea.

You also eat with proper cutlery and drink from glassware.

2. Seats

It is so much more comfortable sleeping flat compared with upright while flying especially for long haul flights. You can tilt the chair at any angle from upright to flat to be comfortable whether trying to sleep or watch the screen.

There’s also plenty of room for your bag, water bottles, books, pens, shoes etc and it was much easier dealing with turbulence lying down.

3. Service

In business class you avoid lines and are waited on continuously. You are able to go through the express first and business class lane at check in and when you board the plane, and you are able to leave the plane pretty promptly after the plane parks.

There also seem to be a lot more air hostesses there to care for you (probably more likely the fact there are less customers to attend to that they seem so prominent) and you are referred to by your name. The hostesses are very visible and at your side in an instance if you need something.

4. Products

We received a toiletries bag comprising an eye mask, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs and Jurlique moisturiser, lip balm and hand cream. This was great for both the plane and when we arrived at Hong Kong International Airport for transit.

5. Transit lounge

During transit we enjoyed the comfort of Cathay Pacific’s The Wing Business Lounge which offered food (dim sum, noodles, cereal, bread, cheese, scrambled eggs, fruit etc), coffee, a bar, power adaptors, computers, private bathrooms, newspapers, magazines and more.

The bathrooms were amazing. It felt like I was walking into a hotel room. It had everything we needed – shower cap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, toner, body moisturiser, cotton buds and more.

It was really nice to freshen up between flights – something we hadn’t experienced before and made us feel a lot better about the longer flight ahead and meeting our friends at LAX.

So fingers crossed my new gig in the travel industry allows me to travel a little more business class because it’s going to be a long struggle back to economy.
