Mum’s day
I appreciate my mum every day but it’s always nice to spoil her a little more on Mother’s Day.
She’s the perfect travel, food, wine and shopping companion, hosts the best family dinners and is always there whenever any of us need something. I hope one day I can be an amazing mum just like her.
To celebrate Mother’s Day this year we took mum to La Capannina in Scarborough as per her request for a family lunch. The restaurant only just opened earlier in the month so we were excited to experience it and were blessed with a lovely day.
We were sat inside at the start but felt our table was a little small and after speaking to management were relocated outside which was actually quite nice to enjoy the sea view, although a little windy.
Lunch started with free champagne for not only the mums but all the girls at the table which was nice.
We shared wood fired pizzas for entree and they were delicious – the perfect base not too thick or dry, a good amount of sauce and fresh toppings. I may be a little biased though as any pizza with buffalo mozzarella on it is a hit with me.
For mains we all tried a different pasta each – surprising I know as we are Italian but we don’t actually eat a lot of pasta at home and the menu had some delicious choices we wouldn’t usually cook.
I enjoyed the Lo Scoglio which had a mix of black ink and white spaghetti with seafood including mussels, clams, prawns and squid in a white wine sauce with cherry tomatoes.
The rest of the family enjoyed…
We made it to dessert and shared the Nutella pizza which was like heaven on earth, I mean who doesn’t love Nutella?! The pizza was topped with nuts and sprinkles. I did struggle through my piece but only as I was so full from all the eating plus champagne, wine and the trusty skinny latte.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at La Capannina … even my super fussy Italian brother-in-law was impressed and it takes a lot to impress him.
The staff were really friendly and accommodating especially when we asked to move tables, in taking some photos of us, and in entertaining my nephew.
Next week I’m off to Bali on another work trip which I’m super excited about getting away. I will share a travel diary as soon as I’m back.
