Lights, camera, Las Vegas
When we were first booked to go to Las Vegas I was expecting a city full of life and bright lights… and that it was.
My partner and his business partner had a trade show in Vegas and lucky for me and his business partner’s wife, we were able to join.
We arrived into LAX after a superb business class flight on a Singapore Airlines’ A380 plane. The comfort, food and service was impeccable. We then picked up our hire car and made our way to Vegas. It was very convenient having this pre-organised through our travel agent as the car hire companies aren’t located inside the airport and you need to know which one you want to go to as you are taken there by shuttle bus.
The drive was quite nice seeing some of the contrasts of the California countryside, from hills to desert. We stopped along the way for a diner experience at Peggy Sue’s, about half way between LA and Vegas. We all ordered burgers, but wished we’d gotten milkshakes too.
We arrived into Vegas in the evening, which was perfect timing to see the city lit up and feel excited.
Out of all the hotels to choose from, my partner chose the New York New York hotel to stay at. Walking through most of the other hotels during our stay, I was a little confused at why something a little nicer wasn’t picked.
Over the five night stay, us ladies basically shopped and ate. We made the most out of the outlets, finding some great bargains at the North Outlets and Miracle Shops. We also had a VIP booklet for the North Outlets courtesy of our travel agent, which gave us additional discounts. One of my favourite purchases was my Giorgio Armani sunglasses for $90.
We enjoyed our morning coffee at Il Fornaio, Pretzels from New York Pretzel, cronuts from America cafe, steak at Wollensky steak and Italian at Piero’s Italian Cuisine. Plus, you can’t forget to stock up on your Hershey’s supplies while in America.
The only show I had organised to see was Celine Dion, and can you believe I got my days mixed up… there’s always next time! We didn’t have time for any other shows with the trade show commitments and dinner plans taking priority, but there was definitely shows for everyone.
It was a fun but quick five nights in The States. I wished I had gotten to New York for a few days… but I will just have to plan a bigger trip next time.
