City steakhouse dining

Last month we had dinner at the recently opened Chop House in Perth CBD with some good friends. The New York inspired steak house offers a seasonal a la carte menu with Australian meat and produce.

We booked online and were given a two-hour sitting, which we were informed about on booking, in our booking confirmation email and in our booking reminder text. We had it at the back of our minds going into dinner but we were happy that we didn’t end up getting pushed out after two hours as we wouldn’t have had time for dessert.

We were sat upstairs overlooking a large chandelier of mixed antique light fittings. It was a great feature of the venue and something I wouldn’t mind having in my house if I had two levels.

We started the night with cocktails for the ladies and gin and tonic for the guys, before moving onto some red wine with dinner. The service was initially rocky but it definitely improved as the night went on.

First up was entrée. We shared the jamon and condiments, half a dozen pacific oysters and mac and cheese bombs. All were very delicious especially the jamon board which came with aioli, onion jam and croutons. The flavours mixed together were a perfect combination.

For main, there was pan roasted gold band snapper, crumbed pork chop and wagyu rump. We also shared a chopped cobb salad, which reminded me of our USA trip.

The snapper had great flavours and the salsa verde, which was a pesto, complemented it well. I was definitely happy with my choice. I don’t often choose red meat at meat focused restaurants as I can’t stomach much pinkness.

Dessert definitely wasn’t a disappointment either. We enjoyed Frangelico crème brulee, popcorn brittle semifreddo and mandarin cheesecake.

The popcorn brittle semifreddo was the stand out and was amazingly sweet. It had a salted caramel glaze, honeycomb, butter popcorn, peanut brittle and marshmallow as the top layer of the ice-cream. We were all wishing we had ordered it once it arrived and were lucky enough to have a taste of it.

All in all I give Chop House the thumbs up. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the ambience and of course the company.
