Melbourne in a flash
Last month we celebrated the wins of the financial year at our annual work ball in Melbourne.
We flew out of Perth Saturday morning arriving into Melbourne early afternoon and flew out of Melbourne midday Sunday so it was less than 24 hours of chaos.
We stayed at the five-star Crown Metropol which was so convenient with both the ball and after party taking place at the complex. It also meant not needing to leave the complex on this cold winter’s night. The rooms were very spacious and good for sharing with colleagues.
I made the most of my time in Melbourne and caught up with my cousin Lisa for a Caserta pizza and skinny latte at Gradi restaurant after checking in. I also tried some of her chocolate pudding which was delicious!
It wasn’t long before it was time to get ready for the ball. This year’s theme was masquerade. I decided not to wear my real mask as I knew the mask wouldn’t stay on my face for long so bought this one for $10 from Spotlight. It was perfect as I could fit it in my bag once I had enough of wearing it.
The ball was held in the Palladium Ballroom at Crown Melbourne and was a lot of fun as always. There was entertainment by dancers and a DJ and the music was great once the dancefloor opened just after 10pm.
The food was good too, we had a prawn risotto for entree and a delicious walnut chicken breast with eggplant and mash potato for main. They didn’t worry about dessert which I loved cause quite honestly I can’t eat dessert when I’m drinking. Instead we had some sausage rolls and party pies for later in the night.
The afterparty was at Therapy Nightclub which was halfway between the ballroom and the hotel. Lucky for me my dress was comfortable enough to stay in for the afterparty.
The next morning it was a slow start but I got up and went for a wander outside taking in the cool winter’s morning sunrise and enjoying the South Bank view over Melbourne.
I love visiting Melbourne and this visit was way too short, so I’m starting to plan the next!

This looks like a nice little taster of Melbourne. I’m going to be visiting on a working holiday visa soon, I want to spend some time in Melbourne, and Sydney. Do you recommend anything else? Becky xx

Hi Becky, thanks for your comment! Melbourne and Sydney are great – Sydney more for the sites and beaches and Melbourne more for the food and culture. Brisbane and the Gold Coast as also nice to see on the east coast and within easy reach of Melbourne. If you have time, you should come over to Perth on the west coast too, especially in summer. We have amazing beaches and it’s more of a relaxed city x
