Pizzeria perfect
On Saturday night we had a catch up with close friends at newly opened small bar Budburst and pizzeria Pappagallo in Perth’s inner city suburbs.
We started with a drink at Budburst on Oxford Street in Mount Hawthorn as our dinner reservation wasn’t until 8pm. We all had a refreshing aperitif of gin – chin chin.
Following two rounds of drinks we made our way to Pappagallo Café Pizzeria further along the street. The pizzeria felt like something out of Italy with it’s casual atmosphere and Italian lingo coming from the kitchen.
Our greeting was a little average; we were pointed to our seats and when we got there the table had been set for six instead of four. A little re-arranging and things picked up from there.
The interior of the restaurant was authentic with patterned tiled floors and walls, a bar in the middle, dessert counter, supplies as part of the décor and hanging globes.
We started with a bottle of red wine straight from Abruzzo labelled Marramiero Incanto Montepulciano D’abruzzo – it was a nice smooth drop.
As pizza was the main focus of the establishment we decided we would get a variety of dishes to share – and all were equally delicious! Everything arrived really promptly as well; we only waited about 10 minutes for our food.
We had the grilled chicken skewers, grilled lamb cutlets, homemade gnocchi in Napolitana sauce, Tricolore pizza with Italian sausage and Pappagallo pizza. The pizza bases were made and the pizza was cooked to perfection. Everything was made with quality ingredients and basil was a key flavour throughout the dishes.
Following all of this we still had room for dessert. Our friends shared the tiramisu and we shared the panna cotta with strawberries. Our dessert obviously screamed ‘eat me’ because I forgot to take any photos but I can assure you the panna cotta was amazing.
