Woodfire dinner
Earlier this month I caught up with my girlfriends for dinner. We decided to try somewhere new and venture to an area we don’t get to often.
This saw one of my friends recommend the recently opened woodfire restaurant Manuka on High Street in Fremantle. The restaurant uses a woodfire oven and open flames to create quality dishes.
Manuka’s menu is designed for sharing and that we did. The menu includes a number of delicious small and larger share plates, cheeses, pizzas and desserts.
As always we couldn’t resist some olives to start with and the wood roasted green olives were delicious and warm. We also ordered a serve of chorizo which melted in our mouths.
The king prawns dish was delicious and bursting with flavours. I loved the marinated cucumber.
My friends and I always like having a salad to complement the meal and the beetroot, ricotta and hazelnut salad was another dish bursting with flavour.
The roasted chicken was nice but fairly plain when it came to flavours. I also wasn’t expecting wings which are always more difficult to eat in a public environment.
And dinner at a woodfire restaurant wouldn’t be complete without a woodfired pizza. As we had already chosen quite a few meaty dishes we decided to try the kale, olives, bocconcini and tomato pizza. The pizza was cooked to perfection, and anything with bocconini on it is a winner.
Let’s not forget dessert. We couldn’t decide on which dessert would be nicer so we ordered both desserts to share. There was a chocolate brownie with chocolate mousse and sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce and cream. For me the chocolate was my favourite, but I am a chocolate person.
We enjoyed all the dishes with a bottle of red and at approximately $40 per head it was a very well priced dinner catch up.
Manuka is perfect for a small friend catch up. The restaurant offers an intimate space with rustic features, exposed brick and rock walls, and vase and wall plants.
