Sydney weekender

I had an amazing weekend in Sydney filled with sunshine, food and wandering.

We landed at 8.30pm on Friday night and checked in to our park view room at Sheraton on the Park. We couldn’t really see much at night but by morning the view was spectacular. We freshened up and were off to our dinner reservation at Sake Restaurant at The Rocks at 10pm.

We enjoyed the ‘new classics’ chef’s menu at Sake which included some of the restaurant’s favourites. There was crispy rice, sashimi, beef tataki, popcorn shrimp, toothfish, salad, miso soup, wagyu brisket and sorbet for dessert.

After dinner we walked around Sydney Harbour admiring the bridge, city skyline and Sydney Opera House, whilst trying to dodge people playing Pokemon Go. Sydney is truly a beautiful city.

On Saturday morning we headed to inner city suburb Castlecrag to have breakfast with a friend from our Vietnam tour at Back & Forth cafe. I tried my first green bowl which came with avocado, broccoli, kale, seeds, quinoa and a poached egg. It tasted very healthy and was yum!

After breakfast we headed back to the city and went shopping around Pitt Street Mall before enjoying a walk through Hyde Park opposite our hotel.

Mid afternoon we got ready for the rugby and headed back to The Rocks area to find a bite to eat before our ferry ride to the rugby. When we arrived there were street markets happening so we enjoyed some street food – A kransky hotdog and lamb and chicken skewers on a bed of cous cous with salad.

At 4.30pm our Lady Rose ferry departed Campbell Cove for Homebush. The journey took us west of the city along the Parramatta River and there were plenty of riverside mansions to admire on the way. The journey took about 1.5 hours and we docked about 3km from Olympic Park stadium, where we were taken by coach to.

Olympic Park was surrounded by street food stalls, merchandise stalls, entertainment and pop up bars. We enjoyed a coffee and some donuts and then took our seat inside to watch the Bledisloe Cup match between the Wallabies and All Blacks. The game was a terrible one for the Aussies but it was fun to watch my first ever rugby game – don’t ask me about any rules though!

After the game we took the train back to the city and enjoyed a drink in the Conservatory Bar in our hotel.

On Sunday we checked out and were picked up by one of my partner’s former work friends. We stopped by the Shakespeare Hotel in Surry Hills for lunch where we enjoyed some pub grub of burgers and steak sandwiches and were then kindly dropped at the airport for our 2pm flight back to Perth.

Ending the trip with a cheeky burger 🙂

It was a really nice weekend away and we were blessed with so much sunshine, I only wish we could have stayed longer. But I am so thankful for having such amazing Godparents.

Next week I will share more about my Sake dining experience.
