My best friend’s hens day
On Saturday afternoon I hosted my best friend – of 17 years – Amy’s hens day.
We started the afternoon with a long table three course lunch at Beaufort Local on one of Perth’s most popular high streets – Beaufort Street. Everyone was asked to wear white and Amy and I decided we would wear flower halos for the day.
The tables came set and I added some white cordelia flower arrangements.
Lunch began with a glass or two of sparkling in the Garden Bar of Beaufort Local – it was a nice warm day for it too.
The menu comprised a charcuterie board for entree, a choice of four mains and a choice of two desserts, accompanied by sparkling, wine, beer and cider.
The four mains included crispy skin barramundi with cauliflower, pine nuts and spinach; pearl barley risotto with peas, mint and mascarpone; shredded chicken salad with Vietnamese pickled slaw, fresh cabbage and peanut brittle; and chargrilled sirloin with mash, salad and jus.
I had the barramundi and every mouthful of it was delicious!
For dessert, there was a choice of chocolate brownie and creme brûlée. Both were huge servings but delicious. I ordered the brownie but I also tasted a friend’s creme brûlée.
We played a few games over lunch including challenging the girls to not say certain words and losing their necklace if they did, with the person with the most necklaces winning. There was also a quiz for the guests and a quiz for the hen about how well she knows her soon to be husband.
Following the lunch we walked up the street to The Queens Tavern where we had a bit of fun watching the hen do some challenges tasked to her by the guests of the day.
There was an addition to the hens outfit every time she did a challenge. These included fairy wings, tutus, a vail, ring, garter, kitchen gloves and more.
We finished the night with last drinks at the Brisbane Hotel around 10.30pm, which was a good 9 hour effort by everyone.
The day was a lot of fun to plan and be a part of, with memories I will cherish forever. Love you babe xx
